San Antonio's #1 Kung Fu School!
Traditional Northern Shaolin Kung Fu
Northern Shaolin Kung Fu
is comprised of four major
systems which share similar characteristics. The systems are Cha Chuan (pronounced "Sah
Chuan"), Hua Chuan, Pao Chuan and Hong Chuan. They are also collectively
known as “Long Fist” Kung Fu.
In 1928, the Chinese government created the Central National Martial Art Institute.
Cha Chuan was chosen as one of the required kung fu styles at the institute. The Head of the
Shaolin Division at the institute was Grandmaster Wang Zi Ping. Grandmaster Wang Zi Ping
was a well known martial artist and a doctor of Chinese Medicine. He was famous for his expertise
in Cha Chuan, Chin-na and Shuai Chiao. His daughter,
Madame Wang Ju Rong, later became a national champion and the first female Wushu professor in Chinese history.
When the new People's Republic Of China government created it's Wushu (“Martial Art”) system in 1953, Northern Shaolin Cha Chuan Kung Fu was chosen as the basis for the modern Wushu Chang Chuan "Northern Long Fist" mandatory routines.
At Dragon Martial Arts, we teach
Cha Chuan kung Fu, Chang Chuan Wushu and some sets that were created by Grandmaster Wang Zi Ping and His daughter, Madame Wang Ju Rong. Our chief instructor,
Sifu Gilbert Leal
was a direct student of Madame Wang Ju Rong.
